Petit Commerce is a term from the West African country of Benin, which translates to “Small Business,” or “Side Hustle.” When traveling, it’s common to fill up your vehicle with good and gifts for friends and family, so at your final destination, you don’t arrive empty handed, and you can finance the journey by selling off the extra items you have, whether they’re clothes, fabric, fruit, food. 

Vitis Jenifera is the side hustle to get me back home to Louisiana, where many of my friends still live. The photographs are of the levee of Clarksburg, that reminds me of the canals of South Louisiana; the redwoods of California; and a map given to me by a friend as I was moving from New Orleans to California, so I could always find my way home.
